Eight students from the Academy of Scientific Research were inducted as Junior Fellows of the New York Academy of Medicine. Each student choose an area to research. All year they have researched their topic through medical journal in the library and online. These students have also had a chance to spend time and discuss their topic with doctors at Maimomides Hospital in Brooklyn.

Here are the topics that the students researched:

How can ADHD be treated in toddlers through adolescence? 

I hope to contribute to helping by researching, and maybe even finding a 
cure or a way to control it better then the other medicines?  I chose this 
topic because my little sister has ADHD and I am very interested in it. 
Hopefully my research will make a difference.

What are the effects of the placebo effect on mental depression?

I chose this topic because I have always been interested in the placebo

effect, and I suspect the placebo effect may play a big role in the treatment

of certain mental ailments.

Is there a drug in steroids that can make them safer?

I chose this topic because I am very interested in steroids and I feel that if I could

find a way to make steroids safer I could save a lot of people.

Question: What are the effects of different treatments for chronic
schizophrenia(vitamins, tranquilizers, etc.)?

I chose this topic because i think that schizophrenic people are very
interesting. I would like to learn about the way they act and the stuff that
they do without control over themselves.

Is Acupuncture for breast cancer as effective as radiation and what are the side effects?

I chose this topic because my mother had a lump on her breast last summer and she asked me if I could find things about it on the Internet. It turned out that the lump benign, but I was interested in the information that I found and I wish to continue studying it.

I chose this topic because it is new and very interesting.
